Power Flushing
Power flushing is the process by which heating systems are forcibly cleansed using water at high velocity, but low pressure, so that no physical damage is caused to the system.
The objective is to restore systems with circulation and boiler noise problems (caused by sludge and corrosion deposits) to optimum operation. Power flushing removes these deposits and the problems that they cause.
Power flushing, in conjunction with SYSTEM PRE-CLEAN, is also an excellent way to pre-commission clean new heating systems, to remove excess flux, swarf and other debris, and the grease and oil used to prevent rusting of components before use.
It is prudent to power flush a heating system while fitting a new boiler to an existing system to prevent possible future problems. Many systems are found to contain corrosion and sludge, even if no flow problems have yet shown themselves.
Existing debris is often mobilised by alterations to the system/piping and the increased efficiency of the new boiler, and may then accumulate in the boiler heat exchanger, causing noisy operation, reduced efficiency and, in extreme circumstances, failure of the boiler. The high efficiency and compactness of modern boilers, developed to minimise fuel costs and pollution, means that they are more susceptible to problems caused by debris in the system water.
We use the best power-flushing machine currently on the marker the Kamco CF90 which is a versatile, easy to use and highly effective method of flushing heating systems. By utilising Kamco system heating systems can be purged of sludge, scale and corrosion deposits with minimal dismantling and disruption.

How does it work?
The Kamco power flushing pump is simply connected into the heating system, either across standard circulator pump couplings, across the tails of one radiator, or wherever most practicable. The powerful flow, combined with instantaneous flow reverser device, will dislodge and mobilise deposits and corrosion which resist traditional system cleaning methods. Once the corrosion and sludge deposits have been loosened and mobilised, fresh clean water is forced through the heating system, pushing the contaminated water out through a full bore dump valve to waste. During the process, radiators are individually flushed, without removing or disconnecting them from the system, by directing the full output of the pump through each radiator separately, while flushing the individual radiators a rad hammer is used to create a vibration within each radiator ensuring all the dirt that has built up is loosened and removed from the system. At the end of the flushing process, the system contains fresh clean water and reinstatement of the system to normal operation takes only a few minutes, we then add a suitable corrosion inhibitor which will maintain the water quality for years to come. System flushing will not remedy design or mechanical faults, which should be rectified, but in many cases it will cure the problems caused by these. Where heating systems are particularly dirty or extra protection is required we recommend fitting a Magnaclean system filter is fitted to ensure optimum water quality in the future. To date we have power flushed a large number of systems with great results resulting in more reliable and efficient systems being left behind.

What are the Benefits of Power Flushing?
Radiator Valves are cleared. Water will circulate freely into the Radiator and then Radiator Valves will work as intended.
Pumps will no longer seize or fail. Abrasive and Magnetic Black Oxide will no longer wear the bearings in the pump and stop them from sticking or failing(unless prolonged damage has damaged your pump). Black sludge will be removed from the radiators. This will eradicate "Cold Spots", eliminates Hydrogen and air build up in the radiators. Hydrogen Gas is a by-product of corrosion, It is flammable and is potentially dangerous. Black Sludge will be removed from the underfloor pipework. This will increase the flow and reduce the chance of blockages.
Removes Limescale and Iron Oxides which damages boilers, creates boiler noises, reduces efficiency, increases emissions and leaves people with cheaper fuel bills.
The Benchmark Scheme
The Benchmark Scheme was set up as a guideline for installers to improve the quality of the installation of heating and hot water systems. In accordance with the Benchmark Scheme and BS:7593 all central heating systems should be cleansed(powerflushed) before the new appliance is commissioned. The reason for this is not only will a central heating system have existing debris and sludge in it, but it will also have excess flux, swarf and grease and oil used to prevent the rusting of componants before the appliance is used.
With the compactness and high efficiency of modern boilers designed to minimise fuel usage and emissions, this makes them more susceptible to damage and faults caused by debris in the central heating systems water. Therefore when having a new boiler installed it is important to have a powerflush.
